Spinal injection with steroids questions?

My doctor is going to be giving me an injection into my spine. He seems to be focusing on the pain I have. But my main concern is getting my legs use back due to extreme numbness and weakness.I have already told him the pain is not my main issue, as my medicine works fine for that. ( from another specialist) I just want my legs back. There is some stenosis, arthritis, bulging disc, etc. My legs have been numb for nearly two years. Does this type of injection reduce swelling enough to relieve the constant numbness?

The focus of these injections is to help patients lead a more productive, pain-free life. The goal is to get patients back on their feet and off pain medications. Many pain medications are addictive and are not good for you over the long term.
The steroids help with nerve inflammation, and could possibly help with your pain, and possibly the numbness. Injections combined with a physical therapy program could help relieve inflammation and swelling. Every patient is different, and there is no telling how much the injections could help. If you have never had this procedure done before, I feel it is worth a try. You will physical therapy to get your legs strong again, and your doctor needs to determine if this is the right option for you.
I have a condition called spondylolistesis, which is a vertebra that slips over another. In my case, I had compression of the L5 nerve root for years. Years of compression caused possible damage. The injections helped me partially, but my numbness remained. I had fusion and laminectomy surgery in July (of this year), and I am still experiencing neurological symptoms, which includes numbness, burning, and weakness.
It sounds like you need to see a neurosurgeon if you haven’t already. I’d give the injections a try, and see how it works for you. You have different problems than I did.
